It has been a long time since I posted to this blog. I cannot offer any excuses – I simply forgot about it. Shame on me – I’ll try to do better.

New Year, New Council.

The Council held its reorganization meeting on Monday, January 7th, as required by Commonwealth law. Returning councilors Henry Farley and myself, as well as newcomers Gene Cerutti and Bob Dydynski were sworn in by Mayor Denny Thomas.

Henry Farley was selected to be our president; Tom King will serve as vice president, and Steve Novak will serve as President Pro Temp.

We appointed the Morning Times as our official newspaper and the 1st Citizens Bank as our official depository. We also set up our meeting schedule on a new day and time, the third Thursday at 6 PM. Our first meeting will be January 17th.

President Farley made committee assignments and I will once again chair the Emergency Management Committee. Henry surprised me by including the phrase “Public Safety” in the committee title and appointing all councilors to the meeting. My committee will start meeting in February on the second Wednesdays at 4 PM at the Sayre Borough Hall.

We appear to have a fairly good council, albeit one member is a disappointment – I really wonder why that individual volunteered to serve. Oh well, c’est la council (?) I am looking forward to serving with the new guys, Gene and Bob. It’s been a while since the council had a pair of fresh eyes on the issues before us.

Blogging Tools of the Trade

I am new to blogging, and I’ve been researching all the tools, gimmicks, etc available to bloggers. I haven’t bought a domain space to host a blog and I haven’t purchased any blogging software (yet). However, I have been using a new product from Microsoft that came to my attention when I signed up for Windows Live services.

The product is Windows Live Writer. It’s a free product and it works very, very well. I have had absolutely no issues with it and my WordPress blogs. I haven’t tried it on other blogging services, but I expect it will work on most of them.

I pointed it at each of my blogs and it downloaded the styles and formats for each one, so you have a WYSIWYG tool. You can insert links, pictures, tables, maps, tags and videos. Additionally, you are able to manage your blog through this product.

Finally, the developers have a lot of info about it at their blog, Writer Zone. Highly Recommended.

Sorry for the absence.

Ran into unexpected computer issues with my laptop, my main blogging machine. It’s a Gateway CX2724 Tablet PC. Lately, it has been sluggish and shortly after my last post, it started acting “funny.” The pen function was practically useless and the compute would wander off to never-never land. Usually the only solution is to reformat and reinstall the operating system and programs. That has been done and it is running much better and faster.

It’s a problem with Windows machines. Something gums up the works – a poorly designed or written program; an uninstalled program that didn’t fully uninstall; or something nasty, e.g., virus, worm, trojan, etc. I’m fairly certain I had none of those, but one never knows. So here I am back in business.

An unexpected compliment….

A couple of weeks ago, I was working in my yard when a woman passed by and stopped. She recognized me as the guy who walks two dogs through the neighborhood each morning. She looked at me a few seconds and asked if I was the Daly who was on the Council. I said I was and she replied that “You’re doing a good job!”

I confess that I was very surprised. I don’t hear those words very often and told her so, and I thanked her. Really made my day…

Keeping on top of things…

Before I entered the blogging world, I read about the issue of keeping things up to date and current, and how hard it was for some people. I now understand how difficult it is – I haven’t trained myself to remember I have this blog. My mid-year’s resolution is to correct this behaviour. Sigh….
